The History of The Ladies Auxiliary in The Years of

1970’s

  • November 27, 1973, Election of Officers was held.  They are President – Debby Greenwell; VP – Nancy Colonna; Secretary – Peggy Lee; Treasurer – Carrie Copsey; Chaplain – Edith Bennett; Historian – Judy Guy.   Auxiliary voted to give the firemen $800.00 towards the building fund.
  • January 22, 1974, Billy Simpson attended the Ladies meeting to discuss plans for the new firehouse.  Land has been purchased for $14,000.00.  The Ladies were asked for suggestions on improving plans for the kitchen.
  • February 26, 1974, Much discussion was held on making new uniforms.  A pattern was presented for consideration.  Final decision will depend on price of material and how many Ladies are planning to march.
  • March 26, 1974, It was decided to make new uniforms consisting of a black & white jumper over a white blouse.  Material will be paid for by members.  It was announced that the firemen will turn the Bingo Stand at the carnival over to the Ladies Auxiliary.  They also asked the ladies to help in the food stand.
  • May 28, 1974, Johnny K. Parlett attended meeting to show ladies the plans for the new firehouse.  The following items will be purchased from Leonard Hall for the kitchen…..2 stoves, 1 grill 4 deep fat fryers, hood, freezer, 6 door dish cabinet with dishes, pot and pan rack, dishwasher, potato peeler, compressor, 2 table carts, all stainless steel.
  • July 23, 1974, There was much discussion about the kitchen equipment for the new firehouse, to be purchased from Leonard Hall.  The price will be $2000.00.  Firemen asked the Ladies if they will be able to pay at least $1,000.00 of the cost.
  • August 27, 1974, A motion was made and passed to give the firemen $1,000.00 toward kitchen equipment for new firehouse.
  • October 22, 1974, Auxiliary voted to purchase 2 coffee percolators from Burch & Wise.
  • November 26, 1974, Fire Department will be holding an Open House to celebrate their 40th Anniversary on December 8th.  Firemen have asked the Ladies to set up some type of display concerning the Ladies Auxiliary in the past and present.  Discussion was held on how much money to give the firemen at the banquet.  It was decided to give them $1,000.00.  Discussion was held on setting up a new system of voting in new members.  The possibility of having a form like the Fire Department uses was discussed. 
  • January 28, 1975, Billy Simpson and Elmer Johnson gave a brief talk on the new firehouse and new piece of equipment. 
  • March 25, 1975, Motion was made to revise By-Laws and make a standard form for new members to join the Auxiliary – motion passed.
  • July 22, 1975, Billy Simpson gave report on progress of the new Firehouse which should be started by October, 1975.  Motion made to amend By-Laws to read, “Active membership shall consist of a member whose annual dues have been paid for the current year.  Any member not attending at least 3 meetings per calendar year shall be put on an inactive list and will not receive any notices of meetings”.  Motion passed.
  • November 25, 1975, New officers voted in are President – Nancy Colonna; VP – Judy Guy; Secretary – Glenda Hill; Treasurer – Carrie Copsey; Chaplain – Agnes Stasch; and Historian – Libby Johnson.
  • April 27, 1976, Guests Billy Simpson and Jimmy Burroughs gave update on new firehouse.  The new truck will cost $72,000.00.   We are expected to be in the firehouse by Oct. 1.  The upstairs will be unfinished.  The firemen want us to be thinking of some affairs we would like to hold.  They want to have one affair a month.
  • July 27, 1976, The firemen asked us to make curtains for the new firehouse.  No decision was made.
  • November 23, 1976, Guest Billy Simpson reported on new firehouse.  The rent for hall is $150.00 depending on whether you use the kitchen, etc.  The firemen will clean up after activities – tables and chairs will be loaned to no one.  A motion was made and seconded to have an auction on March 13.  A kitchen committee was set up.  Chairman Anita Graves, Co-chair Agnes Stasch, also Joyce Gatton and Linda Mattingly.  It was decided to give the firemen $1500.00 at banquet and a promise to get curtains for the hall and kitchen equipment.
  • January 25, 1977, Guests Mr. Arnold and Mr. Tice explained all that is involved in having an auction. 
  • February 22, 1977, Curtains have been ordered for the social hall.  It was moved and seconded that Kitchen Committee members check into getting some pots and pans and other useful items from the Surplus store.  They will have a $1,000.00 limit.
  • March 22, 1977, The Auxiliary welcomed Janet Montgomery as a new member.  Items purchased at the Surplus Auction were dishes, silverware, and pots & pans.  Kitty Raley passed out the “Hot Line” system to all members.  If anything should come up that members should know about, everyone on the list was responsible for calling someone.  The President reported that Henrietta Downs was now a demonstrator for Home Interior and would like for us to have a party.  She would give the Auxiliary a percentage of all sales made. 
  • April 26, 1977, The firemen ordered 100 chairs for $500.00 – would the Ladies consider buying them?  Mrs. Bennett moved that the Ladies pay for the chairs and it was seconded by Madeline Ficklin – motion carried.  Discussion was held on having a Liaison Committee to go to the firemen’s meetings.  Will be set up next meeting.
  • 1978, Firemen asked Ladies to serve coffee, sandwiches, etc. at fires when they are there for a while.  Refreshments after meetings was cancelled.  Ladies fixed lunch of fried chicken, baked beans, potato salad for the men when they worked on the carnival rides.  Meeting time was changed to 7:00 p.m. – gift for men was a hose washer.  Sleigh of cheer at children’s Christmas party.
  • 1979,  Gift for men was 2 mortgage payments.
