The History of The Ladies Auxiliary in The Years of

1980’s

  • 1980, Due to a gas shortage, the firemen will only be going to one parade this year.  Bingo changed from prizes to money.  Ladies purchased $40.00 worth of toys for children’s Christmas party.  Gift for men:  5 mortgage payments.
  • 1981, Ladies purchased a conference room table and 52 folding chairs for conference room and gave the men what was left of the $1,500.00 to get what they wanted.  Ladies were asked to equip the new truck the men won.  The Ladies gave the men $4,600.00 to fully equip the truck.  Girl’s bike was purchased for children’s Christmas party.  Gift for men:  as many mortgage payments as we could make.
  • 1982, No Miss Firefighter for 1982.  Ladies won second place at Hollywood’s Anniversary Parade.  Ladies stopped preparing food for the tournament.  Gift for men:  six mortgage payments and what is left from $2000.00 for running gear.
  • 1983, Joint Ladies and Men’s Christmas dance.  Money to go towards 50th Anniversary.  Gift for men:  S-10 pickup to be purchased and turned in to a jeep.
  • 1984, Rabbit Show in Social Hall.
  • 1985, Open House and Bull Roast.  Ladies to serve funnel cakes in old Pepsi stand at carnival.  First craft show.  Gift for men:  $8,000.00 in an account for the new truck.
  • November, 1986, Officers for 1987 - Elaine Guy- President; Judy Copsey- Vice President; Glenda Hill- Secretary; Vi Evans- Treasurer; Susannah Fowler- Historian; Peggy Guy- Chaplain.  Gift for fireman- 2000 gallon folding tank for $2500.00, Generator for truck $6500.00, Ultra light air bottles $ 500.00, Battery hand-lights (4) $250.00, IBM PC $2500.00.
  • March, 1987, Patsy Stillwell was voted in as a new member.
  • July, 1987, Ellen Emmart was voted into the auxiliary.
  • October, 1987, Ida Abell was voted into the auxiliary.
  • November, 1987, Officers for 1988 - Elaine Guy- President; Judy Copsey- Vice President; Glenda Hill- Secretary; Vi Evans- Treasurer; Susannah Fowler- Historian; Peggy Guy- Chaplain; A plaque was made in memory of Anita Graves.
  • January 1988, Alice Anderson was voted into the auxiliary.  Chrome wheels were given to the firemen for a gift and lettering on the truck.  $12,000 also given for a utility truck.
  • March, 1988, Material was purchased to make drape for the firehouse during funerals.
  • October, 1988, Cindy Adams moved that we waive the 2 year requirement to run for an office to open the elections up.  Motion carried.  It was decided that there be a member of the year. The officers would select the member.
  • November, 1988, Officers for 1989 - Ellen Emmart- President; Debby Greenwell- Vice President; Glenda Hill- Secretary; Diane Lacey- Treasurer; Peggy Guy- Chaplain; Suzannah Fowler- Historian.  $15,000 given to men for CD to go towards cascade system.
  • January, 1989, - 1989 was the Ladies 40th Anniversary.  Dance was had in February and Open House would be in the Spring.  Gave the men our wish list for the kitchen including, tiled floors, small dishwasher, new ovens, another refrigerator, storage cabinets, steam tables, deep fryers. This would all total approximately $42,000.00
