The History of The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, INC
The 1950's
1950
- On February 15, 1950, the department signed a contract with American Fire Apparatus. A 500 gpm pumper with 500 gallons of water was mounted on a 1950 Ford F-7 cab and chassis.
- September 2, 1950 at 2 o’clock Governor W. Preston Lane Jr. addressed the Knights at the Mechanicsville Volunteer. Fire Department’s annual Jousting Tournament.
1951
- A 1951 Federal 2,000 gallon tanker was obtained from the Patuxent River Naval Station for $25.00. In later years the tank was transferred to an International cab and chassis.
- During the 1950’s The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department hosted Jousting Tournaments and Mule Races as fundraisers.
1954
- First Breathing apparatus purchased by the Ladies Auxiliary at a cost of $252.00 each (January 1959).
- On April 3, 1958 the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department became a member of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative
