| At 1144 hours, Stations 5, 1, 2, and 59 were alerted to a working structure fire at 23465 Bushwood Road. Fireboard advised that they had received calls from Dynard Elementary School that a house across the street was on fire. As units were responding, more calls were received confirming it was a working fire. Engines 51 and 12 arrived on the scene simultaneously to find a two story, single family residence with heavy smoke and fire showing from division one. Two 1.75" attack lines were pulled and advanced into the structure. Crews made good progress on the fire but it was discovered the fire had gone up the walls and made it into the second level of the home. Two additional lines were placed in service with Engine 21's crew advancing a line to the second floor, while the crew from Engine 54 took a line to a second floor window to make entry. Engine 74 arrived on the scene shortly after and their crew assisted with knocking down the fire. Ambulance 599 and 798 stood by at the fire scene, while 298 went to the neighbor's house where the occupant of the home was located. The occupant of the home refused treatment and 298 obtained a signed release. Engine 53 supplied Engine 51 and tankers ran to and from the fill site at Station 5 for water. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes with several hot spots left over for crews to extinguish. After crews took a break, the remaining hot spots were put out and the equipment was put back in service. Units from Station 2 operated on the incident for just over two hours. **Pics courtesy of John Douglass** |
