| At 1047 hours, Stations 7, 2, 1, Truck 7, EMS Stations 79 and 29 were alerted to the area of Medley's Lane off of Loveville Road for the working garage fire. Intial reports advised of a working fire. Engine 24 (FF/EMT S. Bellevou) arrived on scene with heavy fire and partial roof collapse on a detached two car garage. The crew advanced attack lines onto the structure and started a defensive attack initially due to the volume of fire encountered. After the fire was darkened down, crews advanced into the structure to knock the remainder of the fire. The fire was hard to extinguish as fire had traveled in between two roofs. The garage was the scene of a fire a couple years ago and a new roof was added over the existing one when repair work was done. Along with the garage on fire, a large trash pile beside it had caught fire also. Crews initially kept the trash pile in check with handlines. The Forestry Dozer was brought in to open the pile up some and the deck gun off of Engine 73 was utilized to flow copious amounts of water on to the pile. The fire was investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and was ruled accidental. The fire started as a result of a home made wood stove which consisted of a fuel oil tank that had been converted to make the stove. Lieutenant Sweeney from Station 7 held the "Medley's Lane Command" and units operated on the scene for approximately three and half hours. |
