Firefighters Rescue One of Their Own in Motor Vehicle Collision |

| On September 7th @ 1757 hours, Station 2, EMS Stations 29, and Charles 2 were alerted for a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Three Notch Road and Old Flora Corner Road in Mechanicsville. Rescue Squad 2 arrived on the scene at 1758 hours advising of a "T-bone" style accident with extensive damage to the vehicles. Lieutenant-2A (Hayden) established the "Three Notch Road Command" and advised Fireboard Communications of one possibly trapped with critical injuries. He immediately requested a medevac. Chief-2 arrived, assumed command, and learned that a Junior Firefighter from Mechanicsville was the victim involved in the collision. Upon further size up, the firefighter was not trapped, but was unconscious when his fellow firefighters removed him from the vehicle. Southbound Three Notch Road was shut down by Engine-23 so that Trooper-7 could land. Firefighter/EMT Shaffer was granted permission from the flight medic to fly with the injured firefighter. He was medevaced to Prince Georges's General in critcal condition. |
