Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Mourns the loss of Life Member Benjamin Kennedy Abell III, “B.K."

Benjamin Kennedy Abell III, “B.K.,” 69, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on August 17, 2025, at Georgetown University Hospital. Born on January 10, 1956, in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Ann Abell and the late Benjamin Kennedy Abell, Jr. B.K. was the loving husband of Ida Evangeline Abell, whom he married on April 21, 1979, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue, MD. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Paul Abell (Aimee) of Middleton, FL, and Merissa Price (Steve) of Avenue, MD; his sisters: Cindy Worcester (Jeff) of LaPlata, MD, and Jenny McCabe (Pete) of Ashburn, VA; and his grandchildren: Jack Gray, Charlie Abell, Emerson Abell, and Cooper Price.

B.K. graduated from Chopticon High School in 1975. He was an Operating Engineer and retired in 2017. B.K. was also a life member of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 NOON, with Father Michael Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Helen, MD.

Serving as pallbearers will be T.J. Kohut, Kevin Worcester, Michael David Woods, Andrew Mika, Mac Lawrence, and Greg Worcester. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mechanicsville and Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department families.

Contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Mechanicsville, the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, and/or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
