New Command 2 Officially Placed In Service

On Thursday, June 25, at 1200 hours, Mechanicsville VFD placed into service a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle (SSV). The unit replaces a 2007 Ford Expedition and will serve as an incident command unit.

Vehicle features include:
• 5.3L V8 engine (355 hp/383 lb.-ft. of torque)
• 4-wheel drive
• Aluminum wheels
•Outside heated mirrors
• 4-wheel antilock disc brakes
• 6-speed automatic transmission with electronically controlled overdrive
• 720 cold-cranking amps primary battery
• 730 cold-cranking amps auxiliary battery (dedicated to emergency equipment)
• Electric power steering
• Heavy-duty, locking rear differential
• High-output 170-amp alternator
• Premium Smooth Ride Suspension
• Skid Plate Package
• Electronic Stability Control System with Proactive Roll Avoidance and Traction Control
• 110-volt power outlet (150 watts)
• 170-amp front and 100-amp rear power supply

Incident command features include:
• Rear 1st In Emergency Products command console with tilt-up dry-erase status board
• PPE and SCBA storage cabinet
• Dual mobile radios with control from the front seat and rear command console
• Two portable radios and chargers
• A Plastix Plus front console with armrests and storage compartment
• iPad mounted on the front console

A Whelen Carbide warning and scene light package installed by Nelson Emergency Vehicle Lighting:
• An Inner Edge light bar behind the front windshield
• M4 warning lights in the fog light area
• Four Ion Duo lights in the upper grill
• Three light Tracer behind the front grill
• Two Vertex lights in the headlight/turn signal housing
• Five light Tracer behind on running boards
• Linz-V side view mirror lights
• M2 lights mounted on the front and rear quarter panels
• Two Duo Ion lights behind the rear window glass
• An Inner Edge 10 light TRAY light bar behind the liftgate window
• Ion lights in the tag area
• Mini-Ion lights on liftgate edge
• GTE Opticom traffic light preemption system
• 4K dash cam with inside passenger compartment secondary camera

Scene light package:
• Front, side and rear warning lights have a steady on white scene light mode

Graphics package installed by IGS Graphics:
• White “Z-jog” stripe on vehicle sides with gold accent strips above and below
• RJ Marx genuine 23kt gold leaf letters and County seal
• Department URL on the rear quarter panel
• Yellow 3M Diamond grade chevrons on the rear liftgate
• Department name on rear liftgate below chevrons
