At 1947 hours, Station 2 was alerted with EMS Station 29 and SMALS to the Maryland International Raceway for the burn victim. Track EMT's were also requesting a medevac for a category "B" patient with smoke inhalation and burns.

Rescue Squad 2 (FF/EMT Raley) responded with Medic 3 and Ambulance 297 and arrived to find a pro-mod race car that had caught fire while racing down the track. The race car was at the end of the track and had been extinguished by track officials and the operator was in the track EMS unit.

Engine 21 was directed to the Potomac Speedway to establish the landing site for Trooper 7.

Trooper 7 medevaced to the Washington Hospital Center's Medstar Burn Unit and units cleared shortly afterwards.
