Volunteers Run Accident with Fatality

At 0548 hours, as members were about to be live on 98 Star FM for Firehouse Friday, Rescue Squad 2 was alerted with EMS units from Stations 29 and Charles 2 for the motor vehicle accident in the area of the 7-11 Store on Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville.

Shortly after dispatch, Lieutenant 29A arrived on scene advising he had a "t-bone" style collision with a high priority patient heavily trapped and requested a medevac. With this information, the assigment was upgraded alerting Charles County Rescue Squad 2 and SMALS.

Rescue Squad 2 and Engine 23 arrived on the scene confirming entrapment but after a quick assessment advised the trapped occupant had sucuumbed to their injuries. With this information, the assignment was scaled back to Rescue Squad 2 and Ambulance 298.

All units cleared the scene in approximately forty-five minutes, with the Rescue being sent back at
0748 to complete the extrication.

The Officers and Members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department offer their deepest condolensces to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.
