| A motor vehicle accident was alerted at 2220 hours for Station 2 and EMS Stations 29 and 19 in the area of the Margaret Brent Middle School on Point Lookout Road in Helen. Initial reports were of a tractor and trailer overturned with the operator out of the vehicle. Rescue Squad 2 (Lt. Cox), Engine 23 (Sgt. Colvin) and Fire Chief 2 responded and arrived on the scene to confirm a vehicle overturned. After assessing the scene, it was determined to be a large six wheel utility vehicle towing a trailer and backhoe. Additionally, a large transformer was being carried on the vehicle as well and was leaking oil onto the roadway. Fire Chief 2 established the "Point Lookout Road Command" at this time. The crew from Engine 23 stretched a protection line as well. Firefighters checked the operator who wasn't complaining of any injuries and began to contain the oil that was pouring out of the transformer. Absorbant and pads were placed along the edge of the roadway to stop the product from getting into the ground and nearby stream. Command requested the County Hazmat spill trailer for additional absorbant booms and pads along with State Highway to assist with cleanup and road repair. Southern Maryland Electric was also notified (one of their vehicles) and they took over the cleanup and spill mitigation once on the scene. MDE was also notified however did not respond. The operator was transported to St. Mary's Hospital by Ambulance 196 and the scene was turned over to SMECO. Units operated on the scene for approximately two hours.
