At 1208 hours, Stations 2, 22, Charles 2, Truck 7 and EMS Station 29 were alerted to 38715 Chaney Lane in Mechanicsville for the reported shed fire. Chief 2A (Raley) advised Fireboard that it would be a working fire as a column of smoke could be seen in the area. With this information, Water Supply 5 was added to the incident.

Engine 24 (Chief 2A) arrived on the scene with a 10x10 shed well off and threatening exposures.
A 4" line was dropped at the entrance and the crew advanced a 1.75" attack line and extinguished the fire. Tanker 2 (FF Turner) picked up the supply line, however it was not utilized. Command advised to hold the units from Station 2, Charles Engine 23 and Ambulance 296 and returned the balance.

Firefighters overhauled the structure and checked both exposures with a thermal imager. Both received some minor damage from the radiant heat.

An ember from an active fire in a burn barrel in the vicinity started the blaze.

Units operated for approximately an hour.
