History Lesson 101

By Assistant Chief John Raley
July 27, 2008

On Sunday July 27th, the department conducted a gathering of the membership, which every member past and present were invited. Currently, we are making plans for our 75th Anniversary celebration and events are scheduled throughout 2009.

The reason for this gathering was to conduct interviews with some of the older members in order to complete our department's history. A book is being put together that will cover from 1934, when we were founded to the present. The fact finding mission was conducted in order to gather information in hopes of filling some voids that we have found in our history. The Ladies Auxiliary provided a light fare for the event, which was attended by approximately fourty members.

Old Engine 1, which is currently undergoing restoration was on hand for viewing. For some, this was the first time they have seen the rig since it has returned.

A special thank you is extended to those members who came out to support the department and especially those who provided invaluable information. Because of you, we are where we are today.

Another event similiar to this is in the works for those who could not make this one so stay tuned to www.mvfd.com for updates.
