| At 1553 hours, Stations 2, 22, 7, Truck 1, Water Supply 5, Charles 2, Charles 5, EMS Station 29 and Medic 1 were alerted to 40781 Parlett Morgan Road for the working house fire. Initial reports advised of a fire in the kitchen with one unconscious in the front yard. As units went enroute Fireboard Communications advised additional information that the report of the individual laying in the front yard was false thus ALS was placed in service. Ambulance 297 was first arriving and advised fire through the roof. Engine 24 (Lt. Hemming) was next arriving advising on scene side "Alpha" with a one story single family, heavy fire showing. The "Parlett Morgan Road Command" was established at this time. Engine 24 laid approximately 400' of 4' LDH from the driveway entrance and its crew deployed two 200', 1.75" mattydales and the 350', 1.75" off the rear. Strong winds were fueling the fire, which proved to advance the fire throughout the attic area. This also made the fire attack more difficult as first in crews were met with heavy fire conditions and partial roof collapse. Tanker 2 picked up Engine 24's supply and fed them during the fire attack. The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes. A primary search was done with negative results. Truck Company 1 was set up on the "alpha" and "bravo" corner and advised to stick the roof. Water Supply 5 was advised to proceed down to the boat ramp beside the residence, drop its manifold in the front yard and establish draft from the Patuxent River. Once draft was established, two attack lines were transferred from Engine 24 to the manifold and used to extinguish hot spots during salvage and overhaul. This proved to work well as it allowed Tankers to be released fairly quickly. Engine 21 established draft at a nearby pond for the tanker shuttle if needed. Once that was deemed not necessary, they were advised to pick up and proceed to the scene. Southern Maryland Electric and the State Fire Marshal's Office were summoned to the scene as well as the Ladies Auxiliary who provided rehab. Special thanks to Pizza Hotline for furnishing the ladies with pizzas to serve at the scene.
The Fire Marshal has ruled the fire accidental and was caused by food left unattended on the stove. Crews operated on the scene for approxiamtely two and a half hours. Charles Tanker 2 was transferred from the scene to Station 2 to provide fill-in coverage. An outstanding job was done by all personnel involved on this incident and the MVFD thanks those who assisted. |
