Station 2 was requested to send an engine to fill in for Union Fire Company 1, located in Oxford, Pennsylvania. Engine 23 left Station 2 at 1300 hours with a crew of six and arrived at Oxford's Firehouse at 1600 hours.

As Engine 23 arrived at the Station, Captain Sam Terry met the crew on the front ramp to notify them that they would be going on the third alarm of a large hay bail fire in West Grove. Engine 23 arrived on the scene to assist with extinguishment, overhaul and clean up.

As units were wrapping up from the fire, Station 21 (Oxford) was alerted for an MVA on Baltimore Pike. Engine 23 responded from the fireground along with an engine from Rising Sun, which came from Station 21. Units arrived on the scene to find a Blazer hauling a trailer that had jack-knifed and overturned and another vehicle in the ditch. All occupants sustained minor injuries and units cleared shortly afterwards.

After both stand by crews were in quarters dinner was provided by the catering company. After the crew finished with dinner they found several things to keep them entertained as it was a quiet night in the town of Oxford.

Engine 23 and its crew left Oxford the next day at 0900 hours. On behalf of the crew and the members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department we would like to thank Oxford VFD for the invitation and their hospitality. Congratulations to Captain Terry for being named the "Firefighter of the Year" and to Fire Chief Rich Terry for being given the honor of Chief Emeritus.
