| Severe storms rolled through St. Mary's County in the afternoon hours on July 14th. Station-2 handled several calls for service including trees on houses and a reported house on fire. Numerous trees were toppled due to the high winds associated with these storms. Mechanicsville Road was the worst area in the first due with several trees across the road and a tree reported on a house. Firefighters arrived to find the tree on the house however it hadn't protruded through. A roof joist had been broken and the crews worked to remove the portion of the tree off the residence. Engine-54 and Brush-5A were alerted to assist due to the amount of trees and limbs that had fallen across various roads in the Chaptico area of the first due. Another call for a tree on a shed and possibly the abovementioned house was answered on Army Navy Drive in Wicomico Shores. Hail, torrential downpours, and high winds played havoc on the first due for a period of time. Luckily, no injuries were sustained to citizens or firefighters during the storm and while we were operating on the various calls. |
