At 1800 hours on Friday, January 31st, 2003 Stations 2, 22, Charles 2, 14, and EMS Station 29 were alerted for a reported house on fire at 36404 Ryceville Road.

Once on Ryceville Road, a male subject was out at the end of his driveway and was very hysterical when talking to personnel arriving in the area. Engine 21 dropped their 4" supply line in order to establish a relay since the residence was approximately 2000" off the hard surface.

Chief 2 followed the wagon down the driveway and went on the scene reporting a one story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing.

Engine-21's crew advanced a 1¾" attack line through the front door finding heavy fire conditions in the rear half of the structure. Rescue Squad 2 arrived on scene a short time later and set up ventilation and lighting. Their crew also advanced a second and third line to the residence. Due to an aggressive interior attack, the relay was not needed and command decided to use a tanker shuttle instead. Additional tankers were alerted from Benedict and Seventh District. Their manpower was utilized for salvage and overhaul.

An outstanding job was performed by all personnel on this incident. The officers and members of the Mechanicsville V.F.D. would like to thank all companies involved.
