| On Friday, September 4, 2026, at 1311 hours, units were dispatched to the intersection of Point Lookout Road (Route 5) and Loveville Road in Leonardtown following reports of a serious motor vehicle collision with entrapment. Law enforcement on scene confirmed a two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and a commercial vehicle, with the operator of the SUV heavily pinned. Chief 1A arrived on scene and established command, advising that the driver of the SUV was heavily pinned with the steering wheel compressed against the driver's chest. Chief 2A assumed the role of Rescue Group Supervisor while crews from Squad 1, Squad 2, and Engine 10 deployed hydraulic rescue tools to begin a coordinated extrication operation. Due to the severity of injuries, emergency medical personnel requested Trooper 7 to launch. Engine Tanker 24 secured the landing zone nearby while the roadway was completely shut down to traffic. Firefighters successfully completed the extrication at 1345 hours. The patient was transferred to the care of EMS and flight paramedics before being airlifted by Trooper 7 to an area trauma center. Two additional patients were transported by ground to an area hospital. Command was terminated, and Point Lookout Road remained closed for several hours while the collision reconstruction investigation was conducted. |
