Early-Morning Greenhouse Fires on Bishop Road in Mechanicsville

On Friday, January 16, 2026, at approximately 0329 hours, firefighters from Mechanicsville and nearby departments were dispatched to the 41100 block of Bishop Road in Mechanicsville for a reported structure fire. Initial reports indicated that a greenhouse was on fire, with chemicals and fertilizers stored inside. All occupants and animals had already vacated the area.

Crews arrived to find a greenhouse complex fully involved with fire extending to additional greenhouses and detached sheds. Due to hazardous conditions, a 500-gallon gasoline tank, and structural collapse, operations were conducted defensively with ladder pipe operations.

The fire was marked under control at 0356 hours and operations were completed at approximately 0516 hours. Firefighters operated on scene for over two hours.

No injuries were reported. Cause of fire was determined to be a propane refrigerator. Fire Marshal was notified.
