On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 1132 hours, Company 2 and surrounding stations were dispatched to Cooney Neck Road in Mechanicsville for a reported residential structure fire, with multiple callers reporting black smoke coming from the residence.

Chief 2A, Engine Tanker 24, Engine 23, Tanker 2, and Squad 2 responded, along with units from the Hollywood, Leonardtown, Seventh District, Bay District, Hughesville, Dentsville, Bel Alton, and Prince Frederick Fire Departments.

Chief 2A arrived on scene to find a one story residence on a basement with smoke showing on the first floor and a working fire in the basement. The homeowner confirmed that no occupants or pets were inside the residence.

Engine Tanker 24 arrived on scene and advanced an initial attack line into the basement from Side C, while an additional handline was deployed through the front door on Side A. Fire conditions were noted in the garage, basement, first floor, and extending into the attic.

During operations, multiple floor collapses were reported on the first floor, prompting crews to withdraw from the basement.

Water supply was established, utilities were secured by SMECO, and traffic control was handled by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, resulting in road closures along Cooney Neck Road, New Market Turner Road, and All Faith Church Road for the duration of the incident.

The fire was marked under control at approximately 1211 hours. Crews remained on scene conducting overhaul and monitoring for hot spots.

All units were clear of the scene by 1435 hours. No injuries were reported.
