| At 2120 hours, Engine 2 and Tanker 2 were alerted to the 38200 Block of New Market Turner Road for a reported detached garage on fire threatening other structures. Chief 2, Chief 2B, Engine 23(FF Cox), Engine 22(FF R Barnes), Engine-Tanker 24(FF J Barnes), Engine-Tanker 224(FF Hayden), Tanker 2(S/O Miedzinski), and Brush 2 with 22 volunteers made the response. Chief 2B arrived to find an approximate 30’ x 150’ detached garage with fire showing from the front and smoke pushing from the entire structure. Engine 23 and Chief 2 arrived with Engine 23 laying in from the street and deploying an attack line to the seat of the fire. Chief 2B established command and assigned Chief 2 the attack group with Engine 23 and Engine-Tanker 24. Engine-Tanker 24s crew deployed a second line to the bravo side and entered the structure to assist with extinguishment and checking for extension. Engine 22 reported to the Charlie side and assisted with overhaul and checking for extension while all 3 of the tankers from Mechanicsville established an uninterrupted water supply with the assistance of mutual aide tankers. Truck 7 arrived on the scene and was directed to the roof to make an inspection cut to check for horizontal extension. Finding none, the incident was scaled back to Company 2 and Company 7 units. During the incident, one member of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department suffered a leg injury. The member was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by Ambulance 799 for evaluation and was treated and released. He is home recovering. Chief 2B held command of incident and units operated for approximately an hour and a half. |
