On Monday, at 1046 hours, Engine 2 and Tanker 2 were alerted to the 36300 block of Notley Woods Lane in Company 5s first due for a house fire.

Engine 23 and Tanker 2 immediately responded with 7 volunteers. As units were marking enroute, communications advised they were taking numerous calls advising the house was on fire. Rescue Squad 2 with an additional four volunteers added to the incident as the first due squad was unavailable.

Engine 52 arrived to find a one story, single family home with smoke showing and a working basement fire. Chief 5B established the command.

Engine 23, Tanker 2, and Tanker 51 arrived next and completed Engine 52s layout and set up water supply, with Engine 73 arriving and laying a supply line to an adjacent pond moments later to establish a relay operation to the scene.

Engine 23s crew was assigned to deploy an attack line to Division 1. The crew was met with high heat and zero visibility but no signs of active fire at the time. The crew backed out and worked to reposition to back up Engine 52 and Truck 1 in the basement.

During this, a MAYDAY was declared by Engine 52 officer. Engine 23 quickly began flowing water in the basement and assisted numerous units with locating the firefighters and helping them to safety.

A second alarm was sounded during the incident which brought Engine-Tanker 24 to the run also.

Numerous members from various departments received minor injuries and were evaluated on the scene and three were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. All are home and recovering.

All units from Mechanicsville were back in quarters just after 1400 hours.
