On March 29th, 2021 at 1900 hours your Mechanicsville Volunteers conducted a drill at an acquired structure we have in the first due. Crews were tasked with a “run-in” which is to operate as the first due engine and special service at a structure fire. During the “run-in” the Engine Company became trapped and had to call a mayday. The Rapid Intervention Team was then required to make entry and rescue the downed firefighter.

We will be conducting live-fire training in this structure in the coming weeks.

Training in acquired structures is valuable training that we get on the occasion that allows us to perform training in a real-world setting as opposed to training facilities that don’t offer the same structural components. If you have a structure you are looking to demo, please feel free to contact us, or your local VFD and see if it’s something they can drill in and in the end burn down for you to demo it.

Also, if you’d like to partake in the action, please stop by the station on a Monday or Wednesday night during company drills and speak with a member!
