Passing of Auxiliary Life Member and Chaplain Margaret "Peggy" Guy

It is with a heavy heart that Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary announces the passing of Margaret "Peggy" Guy. Peggy passed away on November 4, 2020, with her family by her side. Peggy joined the Auxiliary in May 1957 and became a Life Member after 25 years of service and has held the Office of Chaplain for a total of 41 years with the Auxiliary. Peggy was an active member up until her death.

Her daughters Judy Copsey, Valerie Guy, Diane Lacey, and granddaughters Jenny Connelly, Amy Copsey, and Sherry Lawyer have followed in her footsteps as members of the Auxiliary.

Arrangements have not been made at this time but will forward as soon as they become available. Please keep Peggy's family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Obituary for Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Guy

Margaret Elizabeth (Spence) Guy, “Peggy”, 83, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on November 4, 2020 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on February 8, 1937 in Ellicott City, MD she was the daughter of the late Frances Cecelia (Lord) Spence and George W. Spence, Jr. Peggy was the loving wife of the late John C. Guy, Sr. whom she married on November 20, 1954 in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church Chaptico, MD and who preceded her in death on May 25, 2020.

Peggy is survived by her children Judy Copsey (Wayne) of Mechanicsville, MD, John Guy, Jr. (Kathi) of Mechanicsville, MD, Bob Guy (Jo) of Mechanicsville, MD, Valerie Guy of Mechanicsville, MD, Diane Lacey of Mechanicsville, MD, J.R. Guy (Cathy) of Mechanicsville, MD, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Siblings; Jimmy Spence of Bushwood, MD, Harry Spence of Morganza, MD, Alan Spence of Sandston, VA. She was preceded in death by her daughter Elaine Guy and son-in-law, Paul Lacey

She moved from Howard County, MD to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1943. She was a graduate of Margaret Brent in 1954 and a homemaker. Peggy joined the Mechanicsville Vol. Fire Dept. Auxiliary, in May of 1957 and became a Life Member after 25 years of service. She has held the Office of Chaplain for a total of 41 years with the Auxiliary. Peggy was an active member up until her death. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s County Quilters. Peggy’s hobbies included quilting, camping, travelling and was a Brownie leader for many years. She enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Mechanicsville, MD; Where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Father Michael Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery 38888 Doctor Johnson Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659

Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Guy, Amy Copsey, Jacob Guy, Tommy Tinnerman, Sherry Lawyer and Samantha Guy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jenny Connelly, Dylan Guy, and Bryan Tinnerman, Richard Lacey, and Hannah Guy-Withers.
