Crews Respond to Barn Fire in Mechanicsville

On Saturday, May 2, 2020, at 1900 hours, Mechanicsville, Hollywood, Leonardtown, Seventh District, Hughesville, and La Plata responded to the 27800 Block of Mechanicsville Road in Mechanicsville, for the reported barn on fire with explosions.

Chief 2 arrived on the scene to confirm a large barn fully engulfed in flames threatening other structures. Engine 24 arrived shortly after, laying a supply line from the end of the driveway, and deployed a 2" attack line to extinguish the fire extending to the adjacent barn and began extinguishing the original structure. Tanker 2 arrived and picked up the supply line with Engine 23 laying out 1200' of additional supply line from a hydrant at the Wild Goose Crest Neighborhood to the scene with Rescue Engine 22 picking up the hydrant.

Surrounding companies arrived and began assisting with extinguishment and overhaul. The explosion was determined to be from a propane tank inside the barn.

Firefighters operated on the scene for approximately one hour. No injuries were reported. The Maryland State Fire Marshal was requested to investigate the fire.

Chief 2 held the Mechanicsville Command.
