On Thursday, January 9, 2020, at 1828 hours, Squad 2 and Rescue Engine 22 responded to the area of Mechanicsville Road and Cox Drive in Mechanicsville, for the reported motor vehicle accident involving a horse and buggy.

Crews arrived on the scene to find one vehicle, and an unoccupied buggy in the roadway.

It was determined that the runaway horse and buggy was unoccupied when it entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.

All occupants of the vehicle were uninjured and refused care on scene. The horse was pronounced deceased on scene.
