First Due House Fire

By Mechanicsville Volunteers
April 2, 2018

On April 2 at approximately 1430 hours, units from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department as well as numerous surrounding companies, were dispatched to the 28100 block of Woodburn Hill Rd for the reported house on fire. Engine 24, Tanker 2, Squad 2 and Engine 23 responded on the call. As units were leaving the station, they observed a large column of smoke in the sky, and Fire Board advised they believed it was a working fire. Engine 24 arrived first to find a two story, single family house with fire throughout. Chief 100 (St. Mary's County Fire Chief) arrived on the scene and established the Woodburn Hill Command. Initially a defensive (exterior) attack was initiated until it was safe to enter and engage in an offensive (interior) attack. Due to the limited water supply and extensive overhaul, units operated on the scene for approximately four hours. No injuries were reported.

The investigation was handled by the Maryland State Fire Marshall's Office and believed to be accidental in nature.
