On 12/28/2017 at approximately 0253 hours, Company 2 and surrounding departments were dispatched to 35777 Aviation Yacht Club Rd for the reported structure fire. Engine 23 and Squad 2 responded on the call and were advised by Fire Board they were receiving multiple calls for the report of a house on fire.

Engine 23 arrived first with a two story, split foyer, single family dwelling with fire showing and through the roof. The crew from Engine 23, under the direction of Firefighter Justin Raley, pulled an attack line and made an aggressive interior attack. Truck 1 (Leonardtown) arrived next and split their crew, one crew pulling a back-up line to the "Bravo" side of the house to knock down the garage and protect exposures with the other crew performing truck work.

Searches were completed and all occupants were found to have escaped prior to arrival of the fire department. The fire was knocked down within thirty minutes. Units remained on the scene completing overhaul and assisting the State Fire Marshall's Office with their cause and origin investigation, which was deemed accidental in nature. A pellet stove malfunctioned, starting the fire in the family room area of the home. The homeowners, two adults, were alerted of the fire by their dog. Both homeowners and both of their dogs were able to safely escape and are being assisted by the Red Cross. One homeowner was injured during their escape, but was not transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Damages to the home and contents is estimated at $180,000.
