By Mechanicsville Volunteers
July 27, 2017

On Monday, July 24, 2017, the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) and the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad (MVRS) had a meeting that just doesn’t happen every day.

Even though everyone is still recovering, Christopher Kalnasy contacted MVFD to meet those who saved his and his family’s life. In attendance were the members from MVFD and MVRS who were on the scene the evening of October 28, 2016 where a 2006 Jeep Liberty struck a 2011 Nissan Frontier pickup that was stopped at the red light at the intersection of Rt. 5 and Mechanicsville Road. The Frontier pickup ended up off the roadway, overturned. Two of the occupants were ejected one of those was Christopher, the other his wife. While everyone is still dealing with their injuries, including Christopher, he wanted to stop by and say “thank you” to those who responded to the accident. This includes all mutual aid companies, Maryland State Police, St. Mary’s County Sherriff’s Office and all Aviation Medivac’s as well as St. Mary’s County Fireboard.

MVFD appreciates Christopher stopping by to give us an update and would like to send well wishes to everyone who is still recovering from the accident.

Thank you all first responders from all the companies who took care of my family members during the horrible accident in October. Your quick actions saved their lives!!!

I have always had the utmost respect for our first responders but watching them in action is amazing. The care they have for people they don't know is humbling to say the leaat.
