On Friday May 19, 2017 the Mechanicsville Volunteers packed into engines 21 and 23 along with utility 2-A and went to their assigned schools throughout the first due to participate in career day. This is an event that our local elementary schools hold every year to get their students a step ahead when it comes to picking the right career after school.

Engine 21 (2A Bellevou) and Utility 2-A (FPO Palmer) went to Mechanicsville Elementary School and Engine 23 (FF Carter) went to Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School. The volunteers traveled to the two schools to explain the career of a firefighter and all the important things you have to keep up with along with all the responsibilities that comes with the job. The children were told about the importance of finishing school and staying physically fit, along with all of the gear firefighters have to wear and some of the tools we use to operate.

Each class was given fire prevention bags and goodies along with a fire prevention sticker. The Mechanicsville Volunteers would like to thank the two elementary schools for having us to talk to all of their wonderful students! We hope to see those happy faces again next year!
