At 1303 hours, Company 2, Hazmat 18, EMS Stations 29, Charles 2 and Charles 15 were alerted for the Hazmat Investigation at the Bank of America, located at 28250 Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville. Initial reports of an odor in the building with individuals feeling ill.

Engine 21 and Chief 2 were on scene shortly after dispatch. Chief 2 established the command. Engine 21's crew entered the building with gas meters but found no readings.

The crew, along with personnel from Hazmat 13, continued to check the building and found a small leak coming from one of the oil filters in the mechanical room. Crews secured all of the oil lines for the HVAC system. The odor was the fuel oil, which was getting into the HVAC system and traveling throughout the building. Hazmat 13 put some absorbent down underneath the oil filter. Ventilation was set up and employees and patrons were allowed back into the building after the fumes dissipated.

Units operated on scene for about an hour.
