At 0943 hours, as crews were setting up for the annual Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet, Squad 2, Squad 5, EMS Stations 29, 59, and SMALS were alerted to Budds Creek Road and Knotts Lane for the MVA, reported serious. Rescue Engine 22(Capt. Bryant), Engine 24(FF Pilkerton), Rescue 2(FF Bellevou), Chief 2(Trowbridge), Chief 2A(Krabbe), and Chief 2B(Bellevou) made the response.

Units arrived moments later, to find a box truck versus a van, head-on, with one trapped and not breathing. Units went to work stabilizing the vehicle, continuing CPR, and performing a rapid extrication of the patient. Crews had the patient extricatied within five minutes of arrival.

Crews were on the scene for approximately forty-five minutes and the scene was turned over to State Police. Chief 2 held the command.
