At 0910 hours, Stations 5, 2, 1, Charles Station 14, Truck 1 along with EMS Stations 59, 29 and SMALS were dispatched to 36161 Sunrise Avenue in Mill Point Shores for the report of a house fire with people trapped. Initial reports advised a firefighter was on scene with a working fire and people trapped.

Engine 24 (Sgt. Raley) and Engine 224 made the response. Chief 5A (Hayden) was first to arrive finding a one story single family home with fire showing from Side "alpha". He advised it would be a defensive attack. Engine 24 arrived on location and the crew advanced a 2" attack line to the structure on side "alpha". Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews gained access to the interior of the structure and knocked the remaining fire down. Searches were completed of the structure that all proved negative. The occupant of the residence was located and was suffering from smoke inhalation and was transported to Medstar St. Mary's Hospital.

The assignment was scaled back to units from Stations 5 and 2 to complete overhaul and assist the Fire Marshal with her initial investigation.

Units operated on the scene for approximately three hours. Engine 224 cleared the scene and handled the fill in at Station 2.
