By MVFD Apparatus Committee
December 28, 2012

(12272012) Members of the apparatus committee traveled to Pierce manufacturing back in August to conduct the engineering review for the new rescue. Several changes were made to the design and overall layout of the new rig. Since that time, the committe has been finalizing the equipment that is to be transferred and purchased for the new unit. Pierce Manufacturing recently sent the finalized set of build drawings to which the new RES2CUE will be built to. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid January with a completion date of mid March. The new drawings are attached.

(05242012) After many meetings, review of several apparatus and several months of drawing up specifications for our new rig, tonight we entered into a contract with Pierce Manufacturing to construct the department's next state of the art piece of equipment. Our Sales Rep, Randy Schwartz, delivered the contract this evening and Department President Paul Colonna completed the necessary paperwork to seal the deal. Stay tuned for updates and we are looking at April 2013 for delivery.

(01012012) The committee continues to work towards finalizing the specifications and concept drawing. This month the spec should be out to prospective vendors.

(12012011) The apparatus committee is beginning the replacement process of our current heavy rescue and are looking at the various layouts, options and models that are available. Several meetings/discussions have been held and the following specifications have been derived thus far: A walk-in rescue body mounted on a long two door cab with a transverse compartment. A 250GPM pump coupled to a 250 gallon water tank, 35kw PTO generator, LED and quartz scene lighting, Wilburt light tower, LED warning light package, cab and body a/c, front and rear cameras as well as a camera mounted inside the walk-in box which allows the officer to monitor crew status along with many other features.

The committee has been meeting weekly for the last month or so to finish up these specifications and are currently in the equipment location phase in order to finish up the body dimensions.

(05072011) Our Pierce Rep, Randy Schwartz, brought Laurel Rescue's (P.G. County) 2011 Pierce Arrow XT walk-in heavy rescue down for the apparatus committee to look over.

(06102011) Over the last several weeks, members of the apparatus committee have been very busy gathering info on the replacement of Rescue Squad 2. We have been to the Fire Expo in Harrisburg and attended apparatus demos at Hughesville, where the Pierce Dash CF cab and chasis was on display.
Red Storm Fire Apparatus also brought a heavy rescue constructed by CustomFire by the station for the committee to go over.

Check back as we will update the site as the process continues until the delivery of the new state of the art Rescue Squad 2 here in Mechanicsville.
