At 1727 hours, Rescue Squad 2, EMS Stations 29 and 59 were alerted to a motor vehicle collision on Budds Creek Road in the area of the Chaptico Park. As additional calls were being fielded at Fireboard Communications, the assignment was upgraded bringing Rescue Squad 5 for possibly one trapped in a vehicle on fire.

Engine 23 and Rescue Squad 2 responded and arrived on the scene with Ambulance 599 to find a three vehicle collision and a pick-up truck on fire. Bystanders had removed the trapped occupant from the burning vehicle prior to our arrival. Firefighters advanced an attack line from Engine 23 and extinguished the fire, while other crews assisted EMS personnel with patient packaging.

Two patients were transported to St. Mary's Hospital by Ambulance 296 and Paramedic Ambulance 598 as inclement weather in the area prevented any medevacs from flying.

Units operated on the scene for just under an hour.

We were later informed that one of the patients succumbed to their injuries while in surgery.

The Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this incident.
