Department Receives Order of Three New Vehicles and Raft

The Apparatus committee has been hard at work the last several months and continues to finalize specifications for the replacement of Brush 2, Utility 2 and Command 2. Bids were solicited from various vendors to outfit the new Brush 2 with its fire fighting package, Command 2 with its Incident Management console as well as emergency equipment on all three.
The Department received all three vehicles ordered from Waldorf Ford equipped with the following features:
1- 2008 F250XLT Four Door Crew Cab Shortbed Pick-up truck to be utilized as the department utility vehicle and will be called Utility 2. The vehicle will consist of the following equipment: 4WD, 5.4L 8cyl, AT, A/C Camper Shell over the cargo bed It will be equipped with Whelen Liberty Lightbar, SHO-ME LED front grill lights, front, side and rear lights, Powercall Siren, gold leaf lettering, Scotchlite striping including the St. Mary's County seal
1- 2008 F350XLT Two Door Standard Cab Pick-up truck to be utilized as a brush truck and will be called Brush 2. It will have the following equipment: Long bed, 4WD, V10, 6.8L 10 cyl, AT, A/C It will be equipped with a Skid Unit with the following: Hale 18 hp pump, 120 GPM at 120 PSI, 200 gal tank, electric rewind reel, 100' Reeltex booster hose, Class "A" foam system Rear mounted 8000lb Winch, front brush guard, Whelen Liberty LED lightbar, SHO-ME LED front grill lights, Opticom, Whelen LED side lights, hide away strobe lights in the front headlight assembly and rear taillight assembly, area work lights, Powercall Siren, cab console, gold leaf lettering, Scotchlite striping including the St. Mary's County seal.
1- 2007 Ford Expedition EL Sport Utility Vehicle to be utilized as an incident command unit and will be called Command 2. It will have the following equipment: 4WD, 5.4L 8cyl, AT, A/C Command Cabinet installed by Fast Lane along with a front console, Command Net multiplex system Various Incident Management Tools, radio communication capabilities with the surrounding counties SHO-ME LED Light Sticks of various lenghts on top, front, side and rear. Gold leaf lettering, Scotchlite striping including the St. Mary's County seal
The Ford F-350 pick-up truck is currently at Delmarva Pump Center in Marydel. They were awarded the contract to transform the unit into our new brush unit.
The Ford Expedition will be taken to Fast Lane on July 11th in Purcellville. Virginia where the transformation will begin on the new Command 2. The sale was handled by FESCO Emergency Vehicle Sales in Elkridge, Maryland.
The Ford F-250 pick-up went to Truckin America to be outfitted with a camper shell then will be taken to FESCO in Elkridge to be outfitted with emergency equipment on or around July 11th.
Additionally, last year the committee put specifications together for a raft after a successful grant submission ($12,000) to the state. The Apex rigid hull raft was received from Intercoastal, Inc. located in Annapolis, Maryland. The vessel is currently at Cather Marine. located in Colton's Point, Maryland being outfitted with the motor, navigational equipment and other miscellaneous items in order to get it ready for service.
The specifications of the raft are as folows:
Apex 17' Rigid Hull Inflatable Raft, which will be called Raft 22. The boat has the following dimensions: 17'3" in length, weighs 737 lbs., 2250 payload and has a 6 to 8 person capacity. It will be equipped with the following: Yamaha 90 hp motor VHF Marine Radio Area Lighting Radar/Depth Finder/GPS Emergency Warning light and Siren/PA Lighted Compass 4 - Type I PFDs 4 - Type III PFDs 5 - Mustang Suits 8 - PFD lights 8 - Whistles on PFDs Fire channel radio - N/C 2 - Underwater hand lights 2 - Throw ropes Throw ring Anchor and Anchor Rope Mooring and Tow Ropes Signal Flares and Signal Horn Spare Gas Can Binoculars with Compass Boat Hook ADC Maryland Water Ways Marine Map Book
The unit is equipped with the standard equipment: 2 Oars 4 Life lines (safety grab rail) 2 Front cleat handle 4 Side rubber cleat handles 2 Light gray raised rub rail 2 Accent top tube protectors 4 Inflation valves 1 Foot pump 1 Repair kit 1 Diamond non-skid deck 1 Front fiberglass step w/running lights 2 Pop-up cleats 2 Deck drain with plug 1 Inner hull drain with plug 1 12V automatic bilge pump 1 Under deck accessible fuel tank (28 gal) 1 Fuel tank access hatch 1 Ergonomic console w/front seat 1 Steering package 1 Seat cushion & backrest 1 Anchor locker and storage lockers 1 Front U-bolt 4 Lifting U/bolts 1 360° white light navigation pole
Along with the Raft comes the added training in order to place the boat in service. Everyone who will be operating on the vessel will be required to complete the following training: Crew: 8 hour boater safety course Operators: 26 hour USCGA power boating course, 26 hour USCGA Navigation course and DNR practical training. Optional Training: Two 2 day (weekend) Lundeberg Seamanship School seminars
