Once Again...28795 Three Notch Road for the Working House Fire
By Chief John Raley
March 10, 2010
At 0929 hours, the working house fire assignment was sent to 28795 Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville bringing units from Stations 2, Charles 2, 7, Charles 5, Truck 7, Water Supply 5 and EMS Stations 29 and Charles 2. This is the second time in a week that units were sent to this address for the house on fire. The Fire Investigator was requested immediately by Fire Chief 2.
Engine 224 (FF/EMT Bellevou) arrived on scene, side "delta" with heavy smoke showing from a two story, single family dwelling. The crew advanced a 1.75" attack line thru the front door, once the plywood was removed that was placed over it from the first fire. Every window was boarded up on the structure thus the attack crew encountered zero visibility conditions once inside.
Charles Engine 23 arrived next and the crew advanced another 1.75" attack line to the structure. The driver/operator of Engine 224 started to open up the structure and placed two ladders in service to division 2, until the arrival of the Truck Company.
Truck 7 arrived and its crew split, throwing ladders and opening up the entire structure. Once that was complete, the truck crew went inside and opened up as the fire was mostly confined between the first and second floors and in the walls.
Water supply was handled by Tanker 2 and Engine 74. Charles Engine 53 was assigned RIT duties. Water Supply 5 was sent to the water supply point across from Mechanicsville School, however with the aggressive work by crews on the scene a tanker shuttle was not necessary. They were rerouted to the scene and assisted crews working in the structure.
The cause of the these fires are under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office. Anyone with information is asked to call their office.
Units were on the scene for three and a half hours and Fire Chief 2 (Raley) held the "Three Notch Road Command".
