Building Progress Updates

Building Progress 10-18-15 / Update 1
MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) this week to review the building status. Over all the building is progressing well. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Foundation and slab grading have been completed.
  • Foundation footers are about 60% poured and foundation block is starting to being laid.
  • Under slab utilities are being roughed in.
  • MVFD has finalized location of the apparatus drafting tank in the rear lot of the property.
  • WMD has made some minor adjustments to the apparatus floor drains to ensure proper draining.


Building Progress 11-16-15 / Update 2
MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Foundation footers have been poured and all the foundation block has been laid.
  • Under slab utilities are 80% installed.
  • The work is almost completed on final approval of the station generator paid via a grant. The final project details are being reviewed by the builder's electrician and the state.
  • MVFD preparing location for drafting tank to be installed.


Building Progress 11-25-15 / Update 3
MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) this week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • WM Davis has begun planning ahead for the inclement weather this winter.
  • The concrete slab in the office and living section has been poured and control joints cut. WM Davis expects to be able to pour the hall kitchen slab next week. Bay floors will be the last section poured to allow heavy equipment access to the building.
  • The training tower CMU block is about 75% complete
  • WM Davis is expecting structural steel to start arriving beginning of December.
  • MVFD is to coordinate with WM Davis to stake out the site for the draft tank. MVFD can start excavation any time after the site is marked.


Building Progress 12-18-15 / Update 4
MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) this week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • The concrete slab for the kitchen section has been poured and control joints cut.
  • Due to scheduling concerns with the coming cold weather, the bay floor will now be poured in the spring. This will prevent the floor, insulation, and radiant heat for becoming damaged while the building shell is being erected. This will not affect the overall building schedule.
  • The watch office CMU block is finished and the training tower is nearing completion.
  • The CMU dividing wall between the bays and the living section is complete.
  • WM Davis has turned the final location of the building date stone over to MVFD for in-house approval by December 24th.
  • Approximately 50% of the structural steel has arrived on site.
  • WMS made an adjustment to the fire suppression tank system design to allow monitoring of the system for leaks and low water level.
  • The drafting tank has been installed 


Building Progress 1-7-15 / Update

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Steel is being put up. Steel workers estimate approximately 2 weeks for the current steel construction.
  • All currently needed CMU block is finished. Once steel is up the masons will return to the site to start on the front of the building.
  • MVFD submitted the final location of the building date stone. WMD is looking for the best place in the hall exterior wall for the old date stone.
  • MWS is preparing color selection samples and will be presenting it to the department soon.
  • MVFD received an outstanding positive review for the building energy efficiency grant. The building lighting package will perform substantially above energy efficiency requirements.


Building Progress 1-27-16 / Update 6

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Steel is continuing to being put up. Bar joists are scheduled to arrive on February 12th
  • Masonry contractor has installed scaffolding in front of building in preparation of apparatus bay CMU installation.
  • WMD release the date stone location plans to masonry contractor. Old date stone will be placed in museum.
  • MWS and MVFD discussed the final layout of the training tower stand pipe.


Building Progress 2-25-16 / Update 7

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Bar joists and decking installation will continue for the next 2 weeks.
  • The majority of the MEP work in the hall is completed.
  • Preparation to install the bay floor and radiant heat will start soon.
  • Fire suppression pump house is currently being designed.
  • WMD and MWS are revising the exterior building light package some to save energy and cost.
  • MWS is preparing an interior finish plan for department to review. The plan will include wall paint selection, floor color, trim options, room signage, etc.
  • Training tower standpipe drawing approved.
  • WMD has ordered the backup generator.
  • SMECO rebate nearing completion.
  • MWS is reviewing final kitchen equipment list from MVFD and preparing kitchen package and propane requirements


Building Progress 3-19-16 / Update 8
MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • In the next two weeks WMD plans on installing the radiant heat piping, finishing the bay slab prep, and start the perimeter wall framing. The bay floor pore is expected in the next 2-3 weeks.
  • The majority of the steel and jousts have been installed.
  • The bay floor drains have been installed.
  • WMD has drafted the interior design layout for the fire pump building. It will go to MWS for review next.
  • After review with utilities, a new bore under the road will be needed for Verizon and Metrocast.
  • WMD requested that two of the showers be rotated in place 180 degrees for easier long term maintenance and limit disruption if the shower plumbing ever needs repair.
  • MVFD received and is reviewing bids for the propane tank/line installation and filling contract.
  • MWS and WMD discussed several construction details so as to provide the best long term aesthetic look for the front masonry.


Building Progress 4-4-16 / Update 9
MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • In the next two weeks WMD plans on finishing installing the radiant heat piping/insulation, finishing the bay slab prep, and continue the perimeter wall framing. Concrete will be poured once floor prep is finished.
  • Concrete for the gear room has been poured.
  • WMD is removing the entire block wall in the hall coat room and installing new stud walls. MVFD will review to see if the layout of the room should be adjusted.
  • MWS is designing exterior sign and lettering plans for the department. Once designs are completed, sketches will be released to MVFD to review and select.
  • MVFD and WMS are reviewing layout and placement of the fire pump building and the propane tanks in the back lot. MVFD wants to have the propane tanks closer to the gate to facilitate propane delivery.


Building Progress 5-4-16 / Update 10

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • In the next two weeks WMD plans to continue with sheathing, MEP operations, finish building and then pour the mezzanine floors, install the fire suppression tank (delivery due 5/6/16), prep for the generator (delivery due 5/11/16), continue exterior CMU block work, and start interior wall framing.
  • WMD finished installing the radiant heat piping/insulation and poured the apparatus bay.
  • Exterior walls have been framed out. Roof Decking and drains have been installed. Door frames have been set.
  • WMD has started to install duct work and electric in the admin area, kitchen and hall.
  • MWS presented preliminary color ideas to MVFD. MWS will refine the color selection and present a color display set for MVFD to review. Signage options will be reviewed at that time as well.


Building Progress 5-11-16 / Update 11

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • In the next week WMD plans on continuing with CMU at the apparatus bays, pouring the mezzanine floors, accepting the generator, and misc steel and CMU blocking.
  • WMD continues to install duct work and electric in the admin area, kitchen and hall. Electrical equipment has started to arrive. Air handler roof supports have been delivered and installed.
  • WMD has installed the bracing and decking for the mezzanine floors.
  • WMD coordinated the electrical install and acceptance of the building generator.
  • MWS presented an interior color display set for MVFD to review.
  • MWS is reviewing exterior sign options to present to department.
  • WMD has finished installing the fire suppression tank and has re-graded the rear lot including top soil.


Building Progress 6-6-16 / Update 12

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has set the generator, and the fire suppression tank. They have continued work on the CMU at the apparatus bays, exterior framing, and MEP installations. Preparations for the roof including blocking, drains and masonry veneer have been done. And one mezzanine has been poured.
  • This week WMD plans continuing with CMU and veneer at the apparatus bays, interior framing, MEP installation, and pouring the second mezzanine. Also they plan on starting the roof, sprinkler system, and the fire pump house.
  • WMD installed the generator last week and grant paperwork was submitted to the state.
  • Interior wall framing in the admin area are being installed.
  • MWS presented two apparatus bay color choices. The drawings have been posted for the department to vote on.


Building Progress 6-16-16 / Update 13

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has finished pouring the mezzanines, installed the TPO roof over the low areas, started decking the Apparatus bay, continued CMU, framing, misc steel, and MEP rough-ins, started the fire suppression installation, and sheetrock in the mechanical rooms.
  • This week WMD plans on finishing the CMU and starting the veneer at the apparatus bays, continuing MEP and sprinkler rough-ins, hanging misc drywall, installing blocking, working on the pumphouse, maybe setting HVAC units.


Building Progress 6-30-16 / Update 14

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has completed structural CMU to 90%, started the exterior veneer, continued building out the pump house, starting blocking and drywall in the admin area, continued MEP rough ins, installing roofing over the Social Hall, and installing the sprinkler system. 
  • In the next few weeks WMD plans on finishing the CMU and starting the veneer at the apparatus bays, continuing MEP and sprinkler rough-ins, hanging misc drywall, installing wall blocking, continuing pump house build, potentially setting HVAC units. 
  • WMD and MVFD are working on finalizing exterior finishes


Building Progress 7-21-16 / Update 15

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued MEP and sprinkler rough ins, framing, masonry veneer and misc steel installation. They have installed the grease trap, septic tank, fire pump, rooftop HVAC units, completed the social hall roof, and stocked the high bay roof.
  • In the next 2 weeks WMD plans on continuing MEP, masonry veneer installs, start drywall installation, install the high bay roof and start block filler. Doors and hardware should be delivered soon, and fabrication of storefronts will start soon as well.
  • MVFD has ordered the members area kitchen appliances.
  • Sign options were discussed. MECHANICSVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will appear over the apparatus bays in front of the station along with an emblem over the watch office.
  • Bay air and electric cord reel locations were discussed. The final heights will be determined after the equipment has been delivered and can be seen in place.


Building Progress 8-4-16 / Update 16

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued MEP, sprinkler rough ins, masonry veneer and misc steel. They have also installed the high bay TPO Roof, installed blocking, had a hardware delivery, and several inspections.
  • In the next 2 weeks WMD plans on continuing MEP, masonry veneer, start the rear planters, drywall and start block filler. Doors and hardware were delivered and will be installed. The fabrication of storefronts will start soon as well.
  • MWS will provide the department with interior signage options for our review.
  • WMD was giving our red apparatus color codes for bay paint. MVFD requested samples for paint verification.


Building Progress 8-19-16 / Update 17

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued MEP rough ins, almost completed the CMU veneer, started the brick veneer, started storefront installation, started hanging hollow metal doors and drywall.
  • In the next 2 weeks WMD plans on continuing MEP, brick veneer, drywall, storefronts, start block filler, start the rear planters, and site work.
  • WMD is expecting to install commercial power to the building in the next few weeks.
  • MVFD requested the heights of the installed AirVac system to understand the filter changing requirements.
  • Current selections for interior signage are with the Department for review.


Building Progress 9-1-16 / Update 18

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has removed the masonry scaffolding, continued MEP rough ins, continued storefront installation, continued drywall, and finished hanging hollow metal doors. WMD has started painting in the apparatus bay, installing training tower stairs, and digging the planters.
  • In the next 2 weeks WMD plans on continuing MEP, drywall, and paint. During this period, they should be starting ceramic tile, pouring the planters and turning on power.
  • MVFD requested larger drawdowns to verify apparatus bay paint color.
  • MVFD plans to dry fit server racks in the IT Room and then remove them until ready.


Building Progress 9-15-16 / Update 19

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has relocated the fire and water lines, isolated floor joints, started tile, started planters, and started hanging bay overhead doors. WMD has continued drywall, painting, grading/stormwater installation, and steel stairs.
  • In the next 2 weeks WMD plans continuing MEP, drywall, tile, paint, site work and starting site concrete.
  • MWS requested physical signage samples. MWS will also create a signage schedule for MVFD review. MVFD also request the vinyl graphic on the coiling door in the day room to be our station patch.
  • WMD's painter provided bay red paint samples for our review.



Building Progress 10-05-16 / Update 20

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has started installing EIFS, overhead doors, tile floors, glass and low voltage wiring. Work has continued on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site work, drywall and painting.
  • In the next 2 weeks WMD will continue with EIFS, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, overhead doors, site work and finishes. At the end of two weeks curbing could start. 
  • MVFD selected Sherwin Williams Safety Red color for the steel structure in the apparatus bay. 
  • Roof protection around the rappelling anchors was discussed. MWS will provide sketches. 
  • The Commercial Kitchen equipment was delivered.



Building Progress 10-20-16 / Update 21

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has finished the EIFS, continued with overhead doors, tile floors, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site work, paint, metal fascias, and drywall. Ceiling grid has started and the pump house has been inspected.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site work and finishes. Permanent power should be turned on and water should be operable. Generator start up is scheduled and site concrete should start.
  • WMD had a sample shower completed. It was reviewed and approved by MWS.
  • MVFD requested pricing for additional walkway matting at the rappelling areas. MWS will issue a sketch.
  • MWS will issue directive for pricing the weight set installation.

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued working on interior finishes, windows, grading, and storm water managment.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD will contenue with interior finishes, site work, as well as installing windows.


Building Progress 11-17-16 / Update 23

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued working on interior finishes, windows, ceilings, lighting and site work.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, ceilings and start curbing and subgrade preparations.
  • MWS will issue an interior signage schedule for our review.
  • Innovative Floors provided samples and mixed some other color options for the apparatus bay. Physical samples based on our discussions will be issued.
  • WMD brought rubber flooring samples for the gym.


Building Progress 12-1-16 / Update 24

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued working on paint, flooring, windows, ceilings, lighting and site work.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, ceilings, starting curbing subgrade preparations and concrete pavement.
  • MVFD completed the interior signage schedule and sent to MWS for review.
  • Innovative Floors brought final samples and are scheduling installation of the floors.
  • MVFD requested a breakdown of the PCOs showing responsibility and total cost. MWS will provide.


 


Building Progress 12-12-16 / Update 25

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) this week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Since the last meeting, WMD has tuned on heat and continued working on interior finishes, windows, ceilings, finished the sand oil interceptor installation, started epoxy floors, and ongoing site prep.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, epoxy floors, ceilings, starting curbing and concrete pavement.
  • Epoxy floor installation is ongoing. All floors passed moisture testing.
  • Depressed curbs at the training tower and in the parking island across from the Museum were discussed and agreed upon. WMD will proceed.
  • WMD is finalizing the PCO for the containment curbs around the pervious paving. This will be provided in two sections for the MVFD review.


Building Progress 12-22-16 / Update 26

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Since the last meeting, WMD has continued working on interior finishes, windows, ceilings, epoxy floors, started curbing, poring sidewalks, and response pads. 
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, epoxy floors, ceilings, curbing and asphalt. 
  • The epoxy flooring installer requested the striping layout and control joint caulk color. 
  • MWS is looking into drain extensions for the planters.
  • The Department is currently coordinating with Verizon for the phone lines required. 



Building Progress 1-05-17 / Update 27

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Since the last meeting, WMD has continued working on interior finishes, windows, ceilings, epoxy flooring, curbing, sidewalks, response pads and started landscaping.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, ceilings, curbing, concrete pavement, landscaping and finishing epoxy floors.
  • MVFD has ordered the gas connections for the commercial kitchen equipment.
  • MVFD requested two sections of curb be depressed for access to the back lots. MWS will issue a CSK.


Building Progress 1-19-17 / Update 28

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued working on interior finishes, doors and hardware, Bay lights, and trim in the Social Hall has started. Exterior pervious paving, grading sidewalks and landscaping are ongoing.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, ceilings, installing kitchen equipment, and concrete pavement.
  • WMD is to confirm the generator is running on its maintenance schedule.
  • MVFD has someone scheduled to look at the issue with the septic distribution box leaking.


Building Progress 2-02-17 / Update 29

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting, WMD has started paving operations, door and camera system installation, continued landscaping, and interior finishes.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing interior finishes, ceilings, installing kitchen equipment, and continuing site work. The exterior signage is due to be installed next week.
  • MWS and MVFD requested the handicap stall doors be reversed for ease of access. WMD requested a sketch.
  • The Department wants to look into switching the common bunk door with the vision panel out with a door that is solid. WMD will assist.


Building Progress 2-16-17 / Update 30

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has continued with interior finishes, tested the fire pump, got approval for ceiling close ins, started the floor tile in the Social Hall and carpet in the offices and bunk rooms.
  • In the next two weeks, WMD plans on continuing cleaning, interior finishes, ceilings, carpet, floor tiles, installing kitchen equipment, and start hanging exterior signage.
  • Once the museum and flag pole lights are installed SMECO can be scheduled for the rebate walk.
  • The museum door should be delivered within a week or two.
  • WMD is hoping to be completed with final inspections by mid-March

 


Building Progress 3-02-17 / Update 31

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) last week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of last week.

  • Since the last meeting, WMD has continued with interior finishes, including carpet and ceiling close ins. Cleaning has started.
  • WMD plans on continuing cleaning, interior finishes, ceilings, installing kitchen equipment, interior and exterior signage, paint the training tower, install the Trophy Room Door, final paving, pre-punching, and final inspections.
  • The Trophy Room door is scheduled to be delivered Monday 3/06/17.
  • WMD is scheduling final inspections and pre-punching. They are still hoping for a mid-March U&O.
  • The frount lettering is tied in with the exterior lighting and the pan face sign will be tied into a photocell.
  • WMD has the final keys and will issue them to MVFD shortly.
  • There was a discussion about insuring the facility and it was determined that MVFD should start their coverage shortly as they will be occupying the building in a few weeks.


Building Progress 3-23-17 / Update 32

MVFD met with WM Davis (building contractor) and MWS (architect) this week to review the building status. Here are the major developments and work progress for the building as of this week.

  • Since the last meeting WMD has been cleaning pre-punching, painting in the stair tower, and installing the fence. 
  • In the next 2 weeks, WMD plans on continuing cleaning, wrapping up finishes and punch list work. Final inspections are scheduled for next week. Final paving and trench drain installation are tentative for next week as well. The remaining parking lot work will be scheduled once the temporary shed is picked up. 
  • Final inspections are scheduled for next week. U&O should be available by Friday March 31st. 
  • MWS started the punch list walk on 3/23/17. 
  • WMD has the final keys and will issue them to MVFD shortly. 
  • Training and demonstrations are going to be scheduled shortly.
