The Conover Fire Department, located in North Carolina, purchased our 1999 Spartan/Saulsbury heavy rescue and came to complete the necessary paperwork and pick up the unit. Chief Mark Henson and crew arrived at Station 2 at approximately 1015 hours. Members of Conover had been up a couple weeks prior to look over the unit, drive it and made the department an offer a few days later. After a quick overview of the unit to include the use of the cascade system, Apparatus Chairperson Guyther and Chief Henson completed the necessary paperwork in order to finalize the sale. Chief Raley signed over the title to the unit, which sealed the deal. Firefighters pushed the rescue out of the station for its last time with the Fire Chief behind the wheel. We wish the members of the Conover Fire Department the best of luck with the unit and know it will serve the citizens they protect well just as it did here for the last twelve and a half years. Stay tuned for additional pictures of the unit as Conover transitions the unit into their fleet. http://www.rcdphotography.com/Fire-Rescue/Events/Squad-2-Farewell-51612/23015102_bpxc56#!i=1851099709&k=vLz5kN7 http://www.conovernc.gov/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={7F14B54D-7931-408A-85B3-344AC57497BF} Thu, 17 May 2012 11:22:26 GMT http://www.mvfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=1277 One Trapped on Thompson's Corner Road http://www.mvfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=1276 At 1617 hours, the rescue assignment was alerted to the area of 28220 Thompson's Corner Road, near Millwood Lane for the motor vehicle accident. Squad 5 responded on the call and arrived to find a fuel oil transport tanker that had spilled an unknown amount of product in the intersection. Upon further investigation the crew determined that one of the top fills was unsecured on the tank and when the vehicle stopped at the intersection several gallons flowed out of the truck and on to the road. It was also determined that the fuel had traveled into a storm drain which comprimised a waterway. Squad 5 requested the hazmat team and established the command. Reports were also received from motorist that product was on the road in the area of Chaptico. Command then requested Company 2 be added to the call to check that area. Hazmat 18 and Hazmat 13 along with Engine 132 and Rescue Squad 2 responded on the call. Engine 11 was also added for manpower. Once hazmat team members arrived MDE was requested due to the nature of the spill and communications started the State Highway Administration for sand trucks. Crews put down numerous bags of absorbant and ensured the leak was contained at the truck. Booms were placed in a stream that ran to the St. Clement's Bay to contain any oil that entered the storm drains in the area. Hazmat 16 was requested to the scene for the pump off units but they were not utilized. Hazmat 13 team members went to the top of the tanker and pumped the remaining oil into buckets that was in the cat walk. Once the oil was pumped in the buckets the truck was moved out of the road. State Highway spread two loads of sand on the road to eliminate anyfurther traffic hazards. Once the sand was spread the road was opened back up. MDE responded to the scene to oversee the cleanup. **Pics and info courtesy of Seventh District V.F.D.** Thu, 10 May 2012 13:13:58 GMT http://www.mvfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=1274 Reported Attic Fire http://www.mvfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=1273 At 1631 hours, Engine Companies 7, 2, 1, 9, Truck 7, Water Supply 5, and EMS Stations 79 and 29 were alerted to 42306 Allison Drive in Sandgates for the reported house fire with smoke coming from the attic.
