The Officers and Members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department regret to announce the passing of Robert "Harold" Younger on August 15, 2015.

Obituary as posted by Brinsfield- Echols Funeral Home.

Robert Harold Younger
9/25/40 – 8/15/15

Harold was born in McLemoresville, TN, son of Willie E. and Robbie B. Younger. Harold and his family moved several times between Tennessee and Maryland, and eventually settled in Maryland. While playing football in school, he earned the nickname Tank.

Harold served his country as an MP in the Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Harold studied and became an electrician.

Once licensed, Harold was hired by St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where he eventually met, fell in love with, and married Georgia Brown, a nurse working at the hospital. Harold spent his career at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, and retired from there.

Throughout his life, Harold has been involved with the Masonic Lodge, and is a Past Master of Anacostia Lodge No. 21 (1975).

Still being relatively young to be retired, he continued to work. He was hired as a consultant for the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation, and traveled extensively to hospitals around the country for the Commission. He eventually tired of being away from home and left that position.

Harold LOVED children, and became a bus driver. All the children adored him, but the Special Olympics athletes had a special place in his heart. He volunteered to drive them to their events. He had to give up his bus driving career due to health reasons.

But he did not stay idle … Harold was heavily involved in the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and his church, Mt. Zion. He participated in many aspects of the planning, organization, ticket selling, and running of events held by the Fire Department and the church like Christmas in April, the Mt. Zion Carnival, and who can forget HAROLD’S ICE CREAM!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Robbie Younger, his sister Billie Jean Murray, and his dear wife Georgia Younger.

Harold is survived by his niece and her family, Sheryl, Keith and Nathan Loflin. He is also survived by Brandon Millholland, his grandson, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

He was loved by all he met and will be greatly missed.

Family will received friends for Harold’s visitation on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4-7pm with prayers at 7pm at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00am at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 27108 Mr. Zion Church Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659 with Reverend Ann Strickler officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Harold’s honor to: Mt. Zion; Special Olympics or the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department.
