| On Sunday, May 5th, Fire Chief Raley, Assistant Chief Trowbridge, Deputy Chief Woodill, Captain Krabbe and Board Member John Montgomery made the trip to Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin to conduct the final inspection of our new Rescue Squad 2. Our sales rep, Randy Schwartz from Atlantic Emergency Solutions facilitated the inspection.
Arriving in Appleton at 1800 hours, the crew went by the factory in hopes of catching a quick peak of the new rig. The factory was closed but Randy pulled some strings with the security guard on duty and got us in the building. Our first stop was check out west, where units are staged for final prep work prior to hitting the blue floor. It wasn't there and with much surprise, the new squad was already sitting on the blue floor.
The crew spent about an hour at the factory looking over the unit.
Monday morning began the actual inspection with spec compliance and deriving the punch list of items that needed addressing. Lunch was brought in so we could continue working and afterwards, the squad was taken over to the pump testing facility where we exercised the pump and flowed some water. The apparatus performed flawlessly. We took it out on the road to let everyone have an opportunity to drive it once pump testing was completed.
Tuesday morning we were at it again with spec compliance and ensuring the apparatus was constructed in accoradance with our spec and the Pierce component list. Once completed and discrepencies noted, it was road trip time. The crew loaded up and headed north to Green Bay for a photo shoot at Lambeau Field. This also gave us a great opportunity to get a feel of how the apparatus would drive and handle. Again, it exceeded our expectations. Once we were back at the plant, our punch list was reviewed with our project manager. The attention to detail is second to none as most of the items that were noted on Monday had already been corrected Tuesday when we arrived. We also took a tour of the 41 plant as some members had never been to the factory. After dinner, we went to the IPP plant for a tour and then returned to take the rescue out to run the generator, scene lights and warning lights in the dark.
Wednesday was a clean up day and we looked the apparatus over one last time to ensure we hadn't missed anything.
We are very pleased with the apparatus we have designed and the job Pierce did constructing it. It will serve our department and the communities we protect for years to come.
Once it leaves Pierce it will go to the dealer to have the HRT reels installed and undergo an inspection as well check off to ensure our punch list items were all addressed.
Look for the new rig to be in the first due in a couple weeks.
We would like to thank Randy Schwartz of Atlantic Emergency Solutions for his guidance and assistance in assuring the new RES2CUE was built to our standards. |
