| At 0730 hours Rescue Engine 22 departed for Chopticon High School to participate in the annual Mock DUI drill. This drill is held every year at schools all over near prom time and demonstrates the dangers of drunk driving.
Rescue Engine 22 and Squad 5 worked a mock collision scene involving two vehicles head on.
4 student actors were utilized, one trapped in each vehicle, one fatality, and one DUI with no injuries.
Each unit performed a full extrication on each vehicle, removing the doors, roof, and rolling the dash with a charged handline standing by. Crews took their time for students to see what what was occurring and how we did things. Meanwhile Lt. 2B Bryant narrated to the students what was occurring and why.
Once the patients were extricated they were turned over to awaiting EMS crews for packaging.
The DUI driver was taken by a Saint Marys County deputy and a field sobriety test was performed, it was determined he was driving intoxicated which caused the collision and the death of someone.
Crews enjoyed the opportunity to practice extrication skills and wish all the students a safe time this weekend for prom. |
