Quick Response Saves Garage

At 0938 hours, Stations 2, 22, Charles 2, 7, Truck 7, EMS Stations 29 and Charles 2 were alerted for a shed fire next to 26730 Connemara Lane in Mechanicsville.

Engine 23 (Sgt Raley) responded at dispatch and arrived on the scene to find a large garage with fire showing from side "Charlie" and the roof line. The lineman stretched a 1.75" crosslay into the garage, while other crew members threw ladders into the attic opening and up an interior wall to access the fire.

Once access was gained to the attic, the fire was quickly knocked down. Chief 2 (Raley) established the "Shannon Run Command" and scaled the assignment back to two and one and the EMS unit. Once the second engine crew arrived and assisted with overhaul, the assignment was held to units from Station 2.

Firefighters opened up around the flu pipe and checked for extension, extinguishing same. The fire started from the woodstove's flu pipe going up thru the ceiling and roof areas.

Units operated on the scene for an hour and a half.
