At the beginning of the year, the officers discussed upgrading our standpipe packs. After several meetings and discussions, it was decided to upgrade the 1.75" crosslays, 1.75", 300' rear attack lines and 200', 2" inch attack lines on all of our engines. We also took it one step further and decided to color coordinate all of them so all of our apparatus match, standardizing the way we operate on a daily basis.

The next step in the process was to decide what we needed and came to the consensus on a 100psi automatic break away style nozzle with integrated smooth bore. For the 1.75" hoselines, we specified a 15/16" integral smooth bore and for the 2" we went with a 1" integral smooth bore insert. We then picked two manufacturer's, one being Task Force Tips, since we were currently using them and the other would be Elkhart.

Once we received a demo nozzle from Elkhart, we went out and completed flow tests, flowing the nozzles side by side, checking reach, fog pattern, nozzle reaction and hose reaction when using the nozzle as a smooth bore. It was interesting, as the Elkhart nozzle we used for the demo was a low pressure Chief 75psi model and all of our Task Force nozzles are 100psi. Needless to say, the Elkhart out performed it's competitor.

After the flow tests, the officers made the decision to acquire bids on both nozzles. A quote was requested for 18 nozzles meeting the above criteria and Elkhart came in as the lowest bid. The nozzles chosen were Elkhart Select-O-Matic, model STSM-30-FAT, fully automatic.

The pictures attached show the nozzles on the apparatus.

We are going to upgrade the standpipe packs with the Task Force Nozzles that were replaced. The next step is to complete the upgrade of the standpipe and officer packs, which should happen in the next couple weeks. We are excited as we are completing two task as a result of this endeavor.
