By Chief John Raley
July 3, 2010

At 0134 hours, Stations 22, 2, Truck 7, Water Supply 5, Charles Stations 2, 5, EMS Stations 29 and Charles 2 were dispatched to 40614 Waterview Dr in Golden Beach for the reported working house fire.

Charles County Engine 23, followed by Engine 21 arrived finding a one story single family with heavy fire throughout the structure. Firefighters advanced several handlines to the structure and went defensive on the fire initially. Once the bulk of the fire on the exterior was knocked down, Engine 21's crew advanced into the structure on Side Charlie with their line. The crew from Truck 7 assisted with opening up, fire attack, and overhaul. At 0207 hours, command requested additional companies to the scene for manpower.

Chief 2A (Emmart) held "The Waterview Drive Command".

With companies still working on the first house fire, Charles Engine 31 was released from the scene and was returning to quarters. At 0457 hours, they came across a second house fire at 40208 Golden Beach Rd. Charles Engine 31 arrived to find a one story single family with smoke showing. The crew advanced a line into the structure and found a room off. Engine 74 responded from the first fire and was the second arriving, picking up Charles Engine 31's line.

Firefighters worked for several hours overhauling the residence. Chief 5 (Nelson) held "The Golden Beach Road Command".

Both fires are under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office.
